Disappointment in a nutshell

Peanuts at the ballpark

How many times have

you cracked that shell

and hoped for a triple

and all you get is empty

sockets and the burnt

bunt of a nut rattling

around at the farthest

end of a losing game

in extra innings.

NaPoWriMo #26

I’m writing a poem every day in April as part of NaPoWriMo’s celebration of National Poetry Month. Won’t you join me in poetry?

  1. This reminds me of your earlier poem about Opening Day. To use baseball as a way of describing feelings is most amazing.

I particularly liked “the burnt bunt of a nut” — meaning and sound both. Very good indeed.

    1. Yes, the burnt bunt was fun to put together. And that baseball imagery keeps cropping up, I don’t know what’s come over me. Maybe the rest of my sports loving family have finally converted the final holdout. 😉

  2. I love this!!! Working at a nut company where we manufacture these products, it takes me to a whole different place! (Luckily ours do not taste burnt and are hopefully not disappointing lol!)
But we do provide our product to baseball stadiums and opening day is ALWAYS stressful – It’s very interesting how you combined the two items..

    1. Hi Barcelona, I was tickled by your comment! I’m sure that your peanuts don’t have burnt or missing nuts and hope that this year’s opening day went well for you. Thanks so much for stopping by!
